Parlance · The Daily Brief
Privacy Policy.
Last updated October 11, 2026
Parlance publishes The Daily Brief, a free email newsletter, and the website at parlance.fyi. This page explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. In short: we collect your email address to send you the Brief, we keep what we collect to a minimum, and we never sell it.
What we collect
- Your email address, when you sign up. That’s the only thing the sign-up form asks for.
- How you use the email. Our sending service records whether an email was opened and which links were clicked, so we can see what’s working. Most newsletters do this.
- Basic site visits. We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It doesn’t use cookies, and it reports totals (pages, referring sites, country, device type), not who you are.
- Poll answers and notes you choose to send. When you tap an answer in the poll at the end of the Brief, we count the tap. If you write a note, we keep the words you send, without your email address or IP address, and delete notes after 90 days.
We don’t ask for your name, payment details or anything else, and we don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13.
How we use it
To send you the Brief, to understand which stories and sections readers find useful, and to make the newsletter and the site better. If you reply to an email, we read it and may write back.
Who handles it for us
- Buttondown sends our emails and stores the subscriber list on our behalf, under its own privacy policy (buttondown.com/legal/privacy) and data processing agreement. Its servers are in the United States.
- Vercel hosts the website and provides the cookieless analytics (vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy).
We don’t sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we don’t share it with advertisers. If Parlance ever runs sponsors, they get totals (like how many readers we have), never your email address.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe anytime with the link at the bottom of every email. You’ll stop getting the Brief right away.
- Ask us to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you by emailing parlancehq@gmail.com. We’ll answer within 30 days. Depending on where you live (for example California, or the EU and UK), you may have additional rights under local law, and we’ll honor them.
How long we keep it
Your email address stays on our list until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Poll notes are deleted after 90 days.
Security
We use reputable providers and limit who can reach subscriber data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect what you share with us.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll say so in the Brief.
