A Better YouTubeBefore Lunch.
Mon, Nov 2 · 4 min readToday we’re talking about Karpathy’s two-hour YouTube rebuild, the first new fiber in 25 years and Wu-Tang’s Thanksgiving halftime. Let’s get into it.
The One Thing
Karpathy Built a Better YouTube in Two Hours With Claude

Andrej Karpathy, the AI researcher, posted HackerTube on Sunday, a YouTube front end he built in about two hours with Claude.
Karpathy wrote that he was “annoyed with YouTube’s recommendations,” so he had Claude filter 43 million comments from 20 years of Hacker News down to 6,454 videos that keep getting recommended, “~2 hours with Opus 5.5.” The site at hackertube.org needs no login, keeps its state in the browser, and uses a frame from the middle of each video as the thumbnail instead of the uploader’s. He used Claude Code on a Mac, with Opus 5.5 on medium effort, and said the only work he did by hand was making a Google Cloud API key, booting a server and buying the domain. “Many awesome projects that would have normally taken weeks/months even can now be few-shotted for breakfast,” he wrote. The post had passed 2.1 million views by Sunday evening. (HackerTube)
Why it matters: The side project you have been putting off for lack of time now costs an afternoon and a chat window.
The Roundup
The First New Fiber in 25 Years Feels Like Cashmere

TechCrunch got its hands on renoa, a new fiber from the New York startup Everbloom that is made from waste protein and meant to stand in for cashmere.
Renoa was approved by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission as the first new fiber classification in 25 years, TechCrunch’s Tim De Chant reported Sunday. Everbloom grinds cashmere and wool scraps and bedding-industry feather lint into a powder, blends it with a biopolymer and extrudes it into fiber. Co-founder Sim Gulati has worn and washed a test scarf for months, dryer included, and it hasn’t pilled. The first products arrive in the second quarter of 2027. (TechCrunch)
Why it matters: A cashmere-feel sweater you can throw in the wash, and that promises to cost less, is due in stores in 2027.
Apple Earnings, a Jobs Report and $100 Oil Open a Monster Week

Stock futures edged higher Sunday evening as Wall Street opened a week packed with Apple earnings, the October jobs report and $100 oil.
Yahoo Finance calculates the biggest AI and chip stocks have lost about $5 trillion in market value since Oct. 6, while the other 625 large U.S. stocks in its tally added about $1.3 trillion. Last week 9 of the S&P 500’s 11 sectors rose while the index slipped. Apple, worth about $5.03 trillion, reports after the bell Monday, as does Palantir. The jobs report comes Friday; economists polled by Dow Jones expect 55,000 new jobs, per CNBC. (Yahoo Finance)
Why it matters: If your 401(k) is heavy on the big tech names, this is the week that decides whether October was a dip or a turn.
Wu-Tang Clan Will Headline the Lions’ Thanksgiving Halftime

The Detroit Lions announced Sunday that Wu-Tang Clan will headline the halftime show of their Thanksgiving Day game against the Chicago Bears on Nov. 26.
The game airs on CBS at 1 p.m. ET. It is the second year of a multi-year deal in which Eminem and his manager Paul Rosenberg pick the halftime act as executive producers; Jack White headlined last year. “A Wu-Tang Clan Thanksgiving performance in Detroit certainly fits that description,” Rosenberg said of booking the unexpected. The group just wrapped its farewell tour, Wu-Tang Forever: The Final Chamber, and is set for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction on Nov. 14, per Billboard. (Detroit Lions)
Why it matters: Thanksgiving in Detroit is a game the whole country has on, and Wu-Tang gets the middle of it less than two weeks after their Hall of Fame induction.

Michael Che on Why Comedy Beats Basketball for Meeting Your Heroes
Michael Che said it perfectly.
In basketball, you'd have to play for 20 or 30 years to get on the court with LeBron. In comedy, you can be two or three years in, and your heroes are in the same club, watching your set. 🤯
That's the beauty of being a comedian.
